Anthropology alum publishes study on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) stone hats

Sean Hixon (Anthropology, class of 2015) published a study entitled, “The colossal hats (pukao) of monumental statues on Rapa Nui (Easter Island, Chile): Analyses of pukao variability, transport, and emplacement” in the Journal of Archaeological Science. Hixon, now a doctoral student at Penn State University, began collaborating with Ben McMorran, UO physics professor, Terry Hunt, former dean of Clark Honors College and anthropology professor, and Carl Lipo of Binghamton University, while studying at the University of Oregon. In 2015, Hixon was awarded the Anthropology Undergraduate Paper of the Year Award for a version of the now published paper.
